Walking
There are so many options for both long haul and shorter easy walks on the Clare shores of Lough Derg that there is nothing to lose, except yourself in the beauties of our region. The longest is The East Clare Way which is a 180km circular walking route that winds its way through the wildest part of the region while touching on its many villages.
It can be done in shorter sections such as at Ballycuggaran near Killaloe which is readily accessible.
The newest walking trail is now the one that runs from Tuamgraney to Killaloe and this approx. 12 km route offers a dedicated paved path that wends its way along the undulating hills that overlook Lough Derg with viewing points and vistas that make the journey unforgettable. The route is anchored at one end by Tuamgraney where you can visit the chocolate factory and refresh yourself with a hot chocolate or you can visit McKernans Handweavers and see the process there or take a meal in Nuala’s traditional Irish pub.
And at the other end having passed though the tiny village of Ogonnelloe you arrive at Killaloe with its many attractions..
